Our Uniform

The Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora uniform looks smart and is worn with pride. Uniform items can be purchased from Mainland Uniforms.

Good quality clothing may be purchased at reasonable prices through the PTA Secondhand Uniform shop.

Summer uniform is worn in Terms 1 and 4 and winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3.

Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora

Uniform Requirements

You may wear a watch and if you have pierced ears, two single small, plain studs in each ear are allowed. 

No other item is permitted unless the proper application has been made to the Assistant Principal of Pastoral (Mrs Peawini at pwl@cghs.school.nz) and consent given.

Consent will be given only in exceptional circumstances and with special provisions. 

Hair must be tidy: short enough to clear the collar or tied back neatly. Red, white or navy ribbons can be worn. Hair should be a natural hair colour. Hijabs/head scarves are required to be a plain, solid colour that complements the school uniform e.g. navy blue, white or black.

A nylon raincoat of approved navy-blue shade or a parka of navy-blue or safety yellow may be worn.

 Compulsory

  • CGHS red and white sports top and CGHS navy shorts.
  • Sport shoes.

Optional

  • Optional plain navy-blue track pants (no/small logo).
  • School rugby jersey (stripe or blue) available from Mainland Uniforms.
  • Navy-blue polyprop top with school logo (available from the Sports Department, CGHS).
  • School tracksuit (available from Mainland Uniforms).

Wednesday sport

When students are competing in the Wednesday sport competition, they may wear the school tracksuit to school (with playing uniform underneath).

In winter the school track top and track pants must be worn.

In summer the school track top and either CGHS shorts or track pants may be worn.

Summer Junior Uniform

  • Regulation pleated navy-blue skirt, regulation navy blue shorts, or lava lava.
  • Regulation white short sleeve blouse, embroidered with the school crest.
  • Dark brown, polished leather T-bar, U-bar, or lace-up shoes with a low heel, as illustrated on the website.
  • Plain white ankle socks.
  • Regulation navy-blue V-necked pullover or navy-blue cardigan (not streetwear).
  • Navy-blue school blazer with a monogram on the breast pocket for streetwear and formal occasions.
  • Red shell jacket.
  • The blazer is compulsory uniform for formal occasions.

 Winter Junior Uniform

  • A kilt, hem between 10-20cm from the ground, in regulation pure wool worsted material, or navy blue regulation trousers or lava lava.
  • Long-sleeved white blouse.
  • Regulation navy-blue V-necked pullover or navy-blue cardigan (not streetwear).
  • School tie.
  • Navy-blue ribbed or wool pantyhose or plain navy-blue 3/4 socks.
  • Navy-blue & red striped woollen scarf (optional).
  • Dark brown, polished leather T-bar, U-bar, or lace-up shoes with a low heel, as illustrated on the website.
  • Red shell jacket.
  • The kilt is compulsory uniform for formal occasions.
  • A blazer is to be worn on the street at all times

Senior Summer Uniform

  • Regulation checked cotton dress worn mid-calf length.
  • Regulation navy blue shorts or lava lava.
  • School tie (blue for Yr 11, blue with red stripe for Yr 12 and red for Yr 13).
  • Dark brown, polished leather T-bar, U-bar, or lace-up shoes with a low heel, as illustrated on the website.
  • Plain white ankle socks.
  • Regulation navy-blue V-necked pullover or navy-blue cardigan (not streetwear).
  • Red shell jacket
  • Navy-blue school blazer (piped in the red braid for Yr 12 and 13) with a monogram on breast pocket for streetwear and formal occasions. The blazer is compulsory uniform for all formal occasions.

 Senior Winter Uniform

  • A kilt, hem between 10-20cm from the ground, in regulation pure wool worsted material.
  • Regulation navy blue trousers or lava lava.
  • Long-sleeved white blouse or striped 3/4 sleeve shirt.
  • Regulation navy-blue V-necked pullover or navy-blue cardigan (not streetwear).
  • School tie (same as Summer).
  • Navy-blue ribbed or wool pantyhose or plain navy-blue 3/4 socks.
  • Navy-blue & red striped woollen scarf (optional).
  • Dark brown, polished leather T-bar, U-bar, or lace-up shoes with a low heel, as illustrated on the website.
  • Red soft shell jacket.
