Today is International Women’s Day, an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women locally and globally. The theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ imploring people to create a sense of belonging and community. As we continue to bring diversity, inclusivity, and equity to the fore, forging a better world, it is important to value and celebrate difference. Sometimes it is lack of understanding that leads to ignorance and disharmony, so it is important to raise awareness.
This morning, I had the pleasure of attending a breakfast organised by The Breeze radio station to celebrate International Women’s Day. Two of our student leaders Laura Mooar (Student Liaisons) and Ursula Shoji (Global Relations), attended as well and were excellent ambassadors for our school. Speakers shared inspiring and empowering stories about their lives, experiences, and their work.
Earlier in the week our Prefects led a School Assembly to acknowledge past and present women leaders. We welcomed inspiring leader and parent, Daisy Lavea-Timo to offer advice to our students about leadership. See article below.
This afternoon, around 50 senior boarding students arrived at the school from across the country to attend the New Zealand Boarding Schools Association Student Hui. The students were welcomed by our Kapa Haka group before their first session with Burn Bright, specialists in Leadership and Character Development. Their programmes are designed to develop psychological strength and increase wellbeing.
There is a significant amount of activity occurring across the school and in the community, and I would like to thank you for your support. Without the help of whānau and staff, our students would not have such amazing opportunities. Students are preparing for Polyfest. We look forward to seeing many of you at our Fiafia Night on Thursday 14th March in the Performing Arts Centre at school. The Polyfest Festival will be held on Saturday March 16th in Hagley Park.
