Opportunities in Community and Service

Amnesty International This student led group focuses on supporting people in various countries whose human rights have been violated.

Charities Individual groups and the entire school provide support for selected charities annually.

Environment Group This group aims to create a more sustainable environment for our school. Projects include recycling, composting, native plantings, energy conservation and waste minimisation.

Interact A junior version of the larger community Rotary organisation.

Laboratory Assistants Senior students head small teams of reliable junior laboratory assistants who are responsible for keeping the laboratories stocked and ready to go.

Librarians As well as having first read of the new books, librarians gain important leadership and work related skills and help organise Book Week.

Peer Support A formalised programme exists where senior students support Year 9 students in their transition to secondary school.

Peer Tutoring Senior students are available to support the learning of all students in various curriculum areas.

Sports' Coaching Senior students gain important leadership opportunities through coaching one of the school's many teams.

Teacher Assistants and Reader-Writer Service opportunities exist for senior students to assist staff within the classroom and students as readers or writers.

Young Farmers  This group attends farming and horticulture/agriculture events throughout the year and networks with other Young Farmer or TeenAg groups.

Young New Zealanders Challenge/Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Awards This is an individual challenge where students can follow their own interests and meet service, expedition, skills and physical recreation components.
